Happy Birthday, Bottoms Up!
Thursday, July 13th 2017 marks our first year of operation in Franklinton and we are celebrating all week long! In our first year, we have raised awareness about infant mortality, given away Baby Boxes and donated items, hired a Community Health Worker, raised over $3,000 for nonprofits and through the Diaper Gap Fund and started several community programs such as Game Night and Friday Walk for Infant Mortality. We also founded a nonprofit called AVANZA Together and hired personnel to provide resources to immigrant families. We could not have done any of this without the help and support of our loyal followers, friends, members and customers.
Thanks so much for making our first year a success! We are looking forward to many more!
Arepa Pop Up & Natural Juices
In an effort to diversify our menu selection, we will be starting an Arepa Pop Up this July to complement our delicious empanadas. Stop in on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays for breakfast or lunch (until we sell out) for a taste of this Venezuelan delicacy. Arepas can be compared to corn cakes served with cheese and your choice of meat (beef or chicken), and a side of rice and black beans. We will also start serving natural juices and cold brew this summer. We hope you will stop in to taste these delicious new additions to our menu!

AVANZA Together 501c3
We are so excited to announce that our new nonprofit, AVANZA Together has been granted tax-exempt status by the IRS! We started this initiative earlier this year as a response to the new administration’s harsh immigration policies and cries for help from many immigrant families in our community facing deportation. We have raised over $10,000 to hire a Community Advocate to help families with small children access resources they need while a head of household goes through a deportation proceeding. We are so thankful to our community for the outpouring of support and small donations in addition to a large donation we received through the Columbus Foundation. We are also selling Tamales through our “Tamales Together” fundraiser to help fund our work.
Please like our Facebook page, AVANZA Together for more updates!
We are currently showcasing 2 beautiful art displays: one by local artist and CCAD grad Jeremy Rosario and another by a Venezuelan artist living abroad. Proceeds from the sales of the art will either go to a local immigrant family or a Venezuelan family living abroad facing a humanitarian crisis.
Game Night Mentors Needed
Through a partnership with the Franklinton Preparatory Academy, we are hosting monthly game nights at the coffee shop on the first Friday of every month from 5:30-6:30pm. This is a fun way to do community service and make an impact in the life of a young person. Currently, we have many more students than mentors to interact with. Please consider becoming a mentor or leading this program! For more information or to get involved, please contact Virginia Nunes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
